Hi there
I've had my resperate for a couple of weeks now and am accumulating some effective time. What I've found is that 3-4 minutes into the <10BPM time my in-breaths turn into giant jaw wrenching yawns. Is this ok or am I doing something wrong? |

Being a RESPeRATE user myself, I also find myself yawning at times. Try using at a later part of the day. It's recommended that you use it in the evening, but being that it relaxes you so much, you may want to use it a bit earlier. Another piece of info, as long as the yawning isn't affecting a change in the BPM being registered, then it shouldn't affect your session.

OK, so I went and got you a more clincal response. Check out what Dr Alter says:
"A yawn is a semi-automatic reflex that originates in the brain stem in response to a lower level of oxygen in the brain, or when a person is bored or tired. The thing is the breathing sensor interprets the yawn movement as a deep slow breath, so I would suggest the patient to breathe at the last rate that was still comfortable for him/her and use pursed lips breathing at exhale, and the device, being interactive, will adjust to her/him. Thanks for that, Marguerite! Sounds about right as I start to yawn when it gets down to about 7bpm. I'll try and keep it a bit higher. I usually use it about 6-7pm in the evening as that's the most convenient time for me. It does seem to be working. Before I started with it my initial BP reading (taken at 10pm-ish) was about 140/90 (I'm on meds) which never went much below 135/90 even after 10 minutes of rest for it to settle down. My initial reading now is around 128/80 which remains constant even after 10 minutes. It will be interesting the next time I go to see my Doctor as I suffer badly from white coat hypertension. I am excited to hear what great results you're having with your RESPeRATE! (IMG:http://forum.resperate.com/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) The RESPeRATE is proven to help people with the White Coat Hypertension, so I would LOVE to see your doctor's reaction when he sees that your BP is lowered. Keep me posted with that situtation.
As far as your using RESPeRATE, keep in mind that there should be no effort made. I would rather you shorten the duration of your session rather than trying to maintain a certain breathing rate.
