Hi Marguerite:
I said I would get back to you with my BP results since I stopped trying to keep my BPM to 7-8 BPM's. I notice my BP went up about seven points to 124. Of course, this was not high but I would rather keep it at 117 as it was last week. I am going to go back to watching the monitor and trying to keep the rate between 7-8 BPM. How I wish the powers that be would devise a monitor to lock in at 7-8 BPM! |

Dandee,
Anytime I hear the word "try" in association with the RESPeRATE experience, it means an effort. At this time I would tell you not to even look at the screen when in your session and just do what feels comfortable. Once you begin opening your eye to peek, you are coming out of that "zone", which is interrupting your session. Keep us posted! Hi Marguerite:
I took my weekly BP this AM and I am delighted to tell you that it was 120/72. AND I decided to do what you said in your last response - DO NOT LOOK AT THE SCREEN. When the session was over, I then looked at the screen and it registered 4.5. Now I do remember reading somewhere in the literature or on one of the support sites that we did not get the help that we needed if the reading drops that low; however, it is keeping my BP at that number so I guess I should not worry about the number. One odd thing has happend this past week though. When I put the sensor on I got a message that the belt was too tight and when I loosed it, I got a message that it was too loose. Every time I adjusted it, I got a different message. I am sure that my BP went up during that episode. Also, one time while I was doing my session, a voice came on and said "Do not hold your breath." I wasn't holding my breath so I don't know what that was all about. And one more question: how will I know when it is time to change the batteries? Will it just not go on or will there be a signal that they are getting low. As I said, we will be leaving for our vacation in a couple of weeks and I plan on taking my unit with me. |

dandee,
I'm glad you took my advice and waited until your session was over. It really makes a big difference. I wouldn't be too concerned with the breathing rate if I were you. Just let it take you to where you are comfortable. If you end at 3 bpm, but felt it was the best session ever & you feel relaxed, then that's OK! (but don't force yourself (IMG:http://forum.resperate.com/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ) If you're getting that message, you might be doing something without realizing it. You may have a stutter in your inhale. That slight pause may be detected as you holding your breath. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. You can always mute that man! (wish we could use that feature in real life! Just kidding! (IMG:http://forum.resperate.com/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ) As far as the batteries, there really isn't a concrete answer. There will be a battery getting low symbol that appears on your screen, but if you are in your session, how would you notice that, right? I would probably say change the batteries every 2-3 months. But, it also depends on the type of batteries you are using (remember do not use rechargable) and how often you are using the device. Breathe Easy & enjoy your vacation! Thanks for the info Marguerite. And - YES - I do remember slightly coughing during the session. That was probably why I got those mixed messages.

This is a good example. Also, I've been guilty of this next one...when sitting with a slight recline & you move up a little, that tightening of your abdominals will make the sensor think you've just quickened your breathing rate, thus giving you quicker tones to breathe to! That sensor sure is senstive! (IMG:http://forum.resperate.com/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

But, it also depends on the type of batteries you are using (remember do not use rechargable) Marguerite (IMG:http://forum.resperate.com/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) Oooh, why on earth not ? I run everything I have here that needs batteries on rechargeables and never have a problem. I do go for a good make and grade of rechargeables though. I'd be really interested in any good technical reason NOT to use them, as I've found that the 0.1 volt or so that Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries normally run lower than disposables actually give more consistent instrument output results over longer periods than disposables. I'll have to get back to you on the exact reason why. All I know is that we had a person use rechargeable batteries and it seemed to alter the icons on the screen, so it's just been advised not to use them!
