Non-drug Hypertension Treatment Device Presented at the British Hypertension Society Annual Meeting
Analysis of seven independent studies validate a sustained blood pressure reduction Cambridge, UK - Sept 27, 2005 - With nine out of every 10 British adults suffering from high blood pressure not having their condition under control, a new non-drug hypertension treatment device is expected to be well received in the UK. A pooled analysis of seven separate clinical trials presented last week at the British Hypertension Society Annual Meeting at Queens' College, Cambridge, demonstrated that high blood pressure was significantly decreased, with no observed side effects, using a new interactive breathing device, called RESPeRATEŽ. The peer reviewed abstract is published in the Journal of Human Hypertension, Volume 19, 2005. The average high blood pressure (BP) reduction of 14/8 mm Hg, resulted from just 8-weeks of 15-minute daily paced breathing sessions, interactively guided by the device at the home setting. The reductions were significantly higher than control groups which used either a walkman with relaxation music, home blood pressure monitors or a combination. In addition to demonstrating the efficacy and safety of device-guided paced breathing, a number of other new findings were determined by the analysis. The device virtually eliminated the "white coat" effect, reducing the office-to-home difference in systolic BP by 81% and in diastolic BP by 75%. A dose-response relationship was found; individuals spending more time in slow breathing (less than 10 breaths per minute) increased the reduction of blood pressure. Compliance with the new therapy was good, with patients adhering to 93% of exercise goal (evaluated from monitored exercise measures logged by the device); and benefit and adherence were maintained during a six month treatment period. Lastly, systolic BP was reduced during waking hours as measured by 24-hour ambulatory BP monitor "Tens of thousands of patients and physicians have already taken advantage of RESPeRATE to lower blood pressure," said Erez Gavish, President & CEO of InterCure, the developer of RESPeRATE. We are very pleased to introduce the only FDA-cleared and CE mark certified hypertension treatment device to UK physicians, and are confident that their hypertensive patients will benefit from RESPeRATE just as their counterparts in the US and elsewhere." About InterCure Inc. InterCure (www.intercure.com) is a medical device company that creates and sells products that harness the therapeutic power of breathing for the treatment of hypertension, heart failure, respiratory diseases and other conditions. With seven successful clinical trials, RESPeRATEŽ became the only non-drug medical device indicated by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the adjunctive treatment of hypertension. RESPeRATE is now available in the UK directly from the manufacturer, InterCure Ltd. at www.resperate.com and a number of other selected venues.
