I was diagnosed with hypertension this summer during a miscarriage and have been on methyldopa (aldomet) since then. My ob/gyn and primary care physicians recommended this drug because it is deemed safe for pregnancy and my husband and I would like to expand our family. However, I have had to increase the dosage and my bp is still not where I would like it--ususally 140/90. My question is this: Is resperate safe to use during pregnancy??? With my previous full term pregnancy I did have pre-eclampsia and I'm concerned that a future pregnancy will really throw my bp out of whack. I'm african-american and have a family history of hbp and heart disease. I'm overweight--need to lose-20 lbs. I'm homeschooling a kindergartner and preschooler (hence much stress!) Beginning to be very mindful of eating habits--just starting to lower sodium and eat more fruits and veggies. Also, I'm starting to walk daily.

I'm mainly looking for any data from Resperate studies or clinical knowledge from Resperate team, but I would appreciate any comments. Thanks.
