I have been using the resperate for three weeks and did a reading after three 10 min sessions in the relaxation zone and my readings were higher than normal! I had a reading of 162/93 after these sessions my readings normally are in the region of 150 or lower.I use the machine at least three times a day but as yet only get spasmodic lower readings, these are taken at times other than when having just used the machine.I had a reading of 138/72 the other night and this was after a small glass of wine, could the wine have affected the readings? I understood that alcohol increased not decreased the readings. My readings first thing in the morning are higher than during the day ,I would have thought after resting, it would be lower, as I usually get a good nights sleep.I am doing 35 mins on a walking machine every day and also do 45 mins of relaxation exercises. I have only an occaisional glass of wine,I am a 72 year old man am I expecting too much?

To start off, there seems to be inconsistency in the timing of your readings. I usually recommend taking your BP readings the same time each time. Your readings will naturally be higher in the morning then it'll come down only to reach it's peak in the mid-afternoon. This is the natural cycle.
Next you may have an underlying condition which you may not even be aware of.
Finally in regards to the Resperate, I would recommend switching to 15-20 minute sessions, rather than 10 minute sessions. At week 3 of regular use, you should begin to see a sustained reduction in your blood pressure. Of course without an accurate baseline reading, it makes it difficult to compare.
Keep at it!
In regards to your concern about the alcohol, Dr Rowena responded to a similar concern.
Q: Can you drink any alcohol while on any high blood pressure medication?

A: Generally speaking, it is okay to consume a moderate amount of alcohol while on high blood pressure medication. To be certain that your medication does not interact with alcohol, ask your pharmacist or physician.

Breathe Easy!
