I got my Resperate yesterday and have used it two times. I suppose one of the reasons I have hyper tension is that I find it hard to just SIT. (IMG:http://forum.resperate.com/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Although my "STATS" are within the acceptable limits, I think it might be easier for me to focus if I were able to DO something as I sit. Is it possible to read, do a crossword puzzle, watch images on a muted TV program........ SOMETHING? and if so, what SOMETHING is suggested?
Thanks. (IMG:http://forum.resperate.com/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
PS. I use the internet and the computer everyday. I am pretty computer "savy", but I find the web site a bit computer "unfriendly" especially when most people who will visit it are over 50.

NOTHING!!! (IMG:http://forum.resperate.com/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) You need to make sure that you are not doing or focusing on anything else. A slight distraction can throw off your session making it counter-productive. If you find you are having a hard time just "sitting" then try shortening your session to 10 minutes. Also, you might want to try using it in the evening when your body may naturally be more relaxed. There are a lot of tips out there. Please call in for more!

The idea to reduce to 10 minutes I think is solid one. I started with the 15 minute sessions it was brutal. After the first month or so, I started to get really bored. I'd rather have two or three -- 10 minute sessions in an evening than one 15 minute session.

The other thing, is that I cheat. I do read. The first 5 minutes one sort of settling into the effect, and I don't read until I'm nicely stabalized around 5 breaths per minute. Usually then, I can read away, sort of breathing on automatic -- and it doesn't seem to affect my breathing. I know sometimes I get so deep into my book I'll totally get my breathing off whack but it doesn't happen that often. I've read a heck of lot of material in the last year -- while doing my breathing stuff on resperate.

I do believe Margrette is right -- it better not to read or do other things during your session. You get better results if you do it as they say. On the other hand, if I can get 30 minutes an evening on my unit, and get some reading done too -- the drop in effectiveness seems to be more than offset by my willingness to spend a lot more time on it.

Try it reading for a week with it , and try it without reading for a week, and alternate for a couple of months and see if you see a difference. If your BP starts rising during week when you are reading or if you don't get dropping during reading week, then guess you know that you better not do that.
