I HAVE NOTIVED PEOPLE TAKE THEIR BP AFTER A SESSION; I HAVE NOTICED THE ADVICE INDICATING IF YOUR BP GOES UP AFTER YOU ARE WORKING TOO HARD. I AM WONDERING IF I AM GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.............
I STARTED THE RESPERATE ON 2/6/07 THROUGH TODAY I HAVE HAD 9 SESSIONS (SKIPPED ONE DAY) I HAVE OBTAINED 104 THERA MINUTES; NORMALLY A START BR OF 15 AND END BR 4.9; SYNC AND DETECTION USUALLY AT 99; NORMALLY 13 THERA MINUTES FOR A 15 MIN. SESSION. PRIOR TODAY I HAVE NEVER TAKEN BP BEFORE AFTER SESSION; TODAY I DID......ESSENTIALLY THE SAME BP AND PULSE BEFORE AND AFTER SESSION............... IS THAT WHERE I WANT TO BE OR AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG............WILL THIS CHANGE? I HAVE ######UMED I WOULD CONTINUE TAKING BP JUST ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK AND HOPE IN 4-6 WEEKS THERE WOULD BE IMPROVEMENT.............OR SHOULD I BE DOING THE BEFORE AND AFTER BP? THANKS FOR ANY INPUT........ |

It is not necessary to take your BP readings so often. I personally, discourage that. (although I am not a doctor and if your doctor is recommending that you do, then please do so!)
On a side note, if you do happen to take your BP reading before and after and do not see a change in your BP reading after a session, it's possible that you did not do the session properly. Not to sound discouraging, but I am not impressed with the fact that your final breathing rate is 4.9BPM. In fact, that could actually be what is not allowing you to get a lower BP reading! The vast majority of people, myself included, are comfortable when we are in the zone of 6-8 BPM. Generally the lower of a breathing rate a person tries to get to, the more strenuous it is. (not like lifting a couch or anything) but you may actually be increasing your sympathetic activity. The slower the breathing rate, more effort is needed to maintain that pace. As you may know, the breathing exercise is a shorter inhalation and a prolonged exhalation, becoming more noticable the slower the breathing rate. So, when you're breathing at a lower rate, the exhale actually becomes more difficult to maintain, which may be causing a strain thus making the session counter productive. THANKS FOR THE INPUT!
HOWEVER YOU HAVE ME A LITTLE CONCERNED. I HAVE NEVER ATTEMPTED TO GET TO A 4.9BPM I NEVER STARTED WITH ANY PRECONCEIVED PLAN OR EXPECTATIONS. I AM SIMPLY FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS THAT THE MACHINE GIVES AND I FOLLOW THE TONES. IF THE TONES TAKE ME TO 4.9BPM IS THAT GOOD OR BAD? DO I ADJUST SOMETHING? NOTE THAT I HAVE ONLY USED THIS FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND MY BP DID NOT GO UP AFTER THE SESSION. I TIME BY INTAKE TO COINCIDE WITH THE TONES................. I DON'T FEEL I AM STRESSED OR UNCOMFORTABLE...........BUT I DO WANT TO END UP WITH THE BEST RESULTS............... IS THIS THE KIND OF THING TO DISCUSS WITH CUSTOMER CARE? THANKS AGAIN. |

I don't mean to concern you. No one knows your body better than you do. If you feel that you are comfortable at 4.9BPM, then by all means, don't fight the machine, allow it to guide you. However, if at any point you are feeling any kind of strain, especially on that exhale, then I would recommend stop following the tones, breathe normally and let the tones adjust to your new breathing rate.
You can most certaintly call to our customer care dept, Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm EST Toll free #: 1-877-988-9388. Being a RESPeRATE user myself, I find that I am MOST comfortable anywhere between the 6-8BPM zone (as are many) It's not to say that I can not get down to 4.9BPM! What I had done was shorten my exercise session from a 15 min session to a 10 min session. I did this because I found that the longer I did a session, the further down the tones would try to bring me. Once again, although I wasn't totally uncomfortable at anything below 6BPM, I just found that I was and am VERY comfortable and relaxed at 6-8BPM. Also, because I do only 10 minute sessions, I make sure to do one session per day 5 days a week. Hope this helps. The most important thing to remember is relax and breathe easy! Marguerite,
Thanks again for your input, it is always helpful to get information and a point of view from someone who is knowledgeable about the process. To be honest, I never have a problem with the exhale, on occassion I have a problem with the inhale because I don't focus and finish all I can do before the tone is done---however if I focus this is not a problem. I think I will try a 10 minute session to compare to the 15 minute session. In fact I was thinking about rotating from a 10 min to 15min and so on...I might ask customer care about this. OK---the final asssessment---I am at work--CPA in the middle of Tax Season----This is where I do my session---I stop in the middle of the day and just do it----it really gives me a break.... Here are the numbers: BP before Session: 133/72 Pulse 52 ( Took BP in each arm--same both times) Immediately after session: 1st Time-BP 127/81 Pulse 53; 2nd Time BP 127/81 Pulse 52 [u]3rd Time-BP 120/72 Pulse 51 Session: Begin at 15 BPM End at 4.8 BPM Sync 96 Detection 99 Other then the 81 right after session---I think this sounds pretty good! I think I am going in the right direction---Started Feb 6 and have missed one day. Thanks again for your thoughts PS: 2-26-2007---I HAVE DONE 2 10 MINUTE SESSIONS(SEPARATE DAYS) AND ON BOTH I STARTED OUT AT 18 BPM AND ENDED AT 4.9 BPM; ABOUT 8 MINUTES OF TM. SO I AM NOT SURE THE SWITCH FROM 15 TO 10 MAKES A DIFF FOR ME? I don't mean to concern you. No one knows your body better than you do. If you feel that you are comfortable at 4.9BPM, then by all means, don't fight the machine, allow it to guide you. Well, I can see that your body is responding to your RESPeRATE session in a positive way, so I would at this point say, do what is most comfortable for you!
