How does Resperate compare with the StressErasor which appears to function in a similar fashion?

Hi Ira,

Thank you for your posting.   Although there are some similarities between StressEraser and RESPeRATE, they are actually more different than they are similar. RESPeRATE is the only medical device on the market clinically proven to lower blood pressure through paced breathing therapy.

First of all, RESPeRATE is  indicated by the FDA as an adjunctive treatment for hypertension (with drug or non-drug treatments) and as a treatment for the reduction of stress. It has been proven to be effective  in 9 clinical trials and is supported by leading physicians.  StressEraser is marketed for stress alone and therefore does not require rigorous studies and  FDA approval (is is exempt). StressEraser (correctly) does not make any claims regarding hypertension.

In terms of how the two units work: RESPeRATE monitors your respiration rate through a sensor on your abdomen and then guides you through a personalized melody to slowly lower and deepen your breathing rate while extending the exhalation. All you need to do is breathe -- inhaling with the high tone and exhaling with the low tone. RESPeRATE does the rest for you.

The breathing exercises with RESPeRATE relax the constricted muscles surrounding the small blood vessels, allowing the blood to flow more freely and yielding a significant and lasting reduction of blood pressure within weeks.

StressEraser is a classic biofeedback device that monitors a biological rhythm (pulse, heart rate variability) and provides feedback (visual wave). The user then needs to do something to improve it.  You need to learn to synchronize your breathing with the wave. They suggest counting to yourself as you inhale and exhale.

While it is nice to have feedback, focusing on the display increases sympathetic activity (part of the autonomic nervous system that activates the flight or flight response) which is counterproductive to reducing blood pressure.  While RESPeRATE does provide feedback on breathing rate on the LCD display, this information is not key as users naturally follow the guiding tones. In fact, users are instructed to 輙ose their eyes and breathe with the guiding tones.  In order to lower your blood pressure, you need to pace your breathing without effort. Even the simplest breathing exercises, such as counting, reciting a mantra or consciously observing your breathing, require effort.

I hope this helps...  Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi,
Are you saying that Resporate will also reduce stress?
Thanks
