I have been using Resperate now for two weeks, for 30 mins a day - 15 mins a.m. and 15 mins. pm. I checked by blood pressure today and was very alarmed to see that it has risen dramatically. I took it several times over a 30 min period just to make sure. Obviously, it didn't help that I was worried because it was so high. I originally had a BP of 147/90 but today it has been 168/100 and even higher! Am I doing something wrong or maybe Resperate won't work for me. I am still taking medication so this is a huge disappointment for me but I don't intend giving up I would just like a solution to at least get my blood pressure down to normal but preferably even lower. Any ideas please, I feel desperate.

I would say contact InterCure tech support. You may be doing something wrong. I don't have the number, but it is probably on this website. Hopefully Team RESPeRATE will respond back to your post soon.

Also, don't give up yet. It took me about a month to start seeing results. It varies from person to person, but definitely find out if you are doing it right.

If you are seeing an increase in your blood pressure and believe it's because of the RESPeRATE, then it's probably because you are putting too much effort into your sessions. Probably getting down too low in regards to the breathing rate. If you are concerned, then call our support dept to speak with someone who is going to ask you to go over your stats, so have your device ready!

Thank you so much for your advice. I think you are right in that I have been putting too much effort into my sessions. My breathing rate was nearly always 4.8 so I will now relax a bit more and breathe easy! Will keep you advised as to hopefully, good progress.

I often find that many people put more focus in the technique in the beginning. This is fine for the first few sessions, but after you get comfortable with the device itself, it's important to just relax and breathe easy!

Hi:
I am a new user (about two weeks now) and if there's a best time of the day or night to perform the breathing exercise, can you let me know?

I've been having trouble keeping my BP down using the RespeRate machine.

As a matter of fact it has gone up.

Before I got the RespeRate machine, my BP was approx. 147 over 85. I do the RespeRate breathing exercises before bedtime. When I wake up in the morning, I take my BP and every time it is over 160 and the bottom number is 93 to 95. Quite alarming actually!

Should I be using the RespeRate at a different time of day? Would that help?

Dear Eyerishize,
I you came into the right topic room. My first question is were your readings of 147/85 measured at the same time of day as your current readings? I'd suggest taking your BP readings at the same time of day whenever you do take it. In many cases the blood pressure measured when waking up is higher than the rest of the day. This phenomenon is called "morning surge". It is well documented in medical literature and was actually found to be important to get under control (see http://www.scienceblog.com/community/older...B/2003680.html).
If you find that you have "morning surge" then you might want to do a session during this time of day. If you find that it's not convenient, then try doing a session in the evening about 1/2 before you go to bed. There really is no right or wrong time to use the RESPeRATE, as long as you are using it!
I just wanted to add that 2 weeks may be too early to see the full effects of RESPeRATE, especially if you haven't been using it properly. I would suggest you call into our Customer Care Dept to speak with someone who may give you a better understanding of what you may have or may have not been doing thus far.
Finally, to touch back onto the "morning surge" topic, I was able to find a response from Dr Rowena that may shed some light. (found here: http://www.resperate.com/drrowena.aspx#BP)
Posted: 1/28/2008 Dr Rowena says:
"Blood pressure is not constant throughout the day. Because of the circadian rhythm of our bodies, there is a natural elevation of pressure in the early morning. Depending upon when you are measuring your pressure, you may not be hitting this peak. Different activities during the day and timing of medications also affect your blood pressure. If you are getting higher than normal blood pressure measurements, no matter the time of day, you need to see your doctor."
Above all, always remember, Breathe Easy!
