I wonder if anyone seen a study on the effect of flu's and colds on blood pressure. I've been tracking BP now for about 5 years, and everytime I get the cold or flu my blood pressure goes up. And I even with medication, during these times it can be hard to get it down to normal. As soon as the cold or flu is over, the blood pressure drops to normal. I'm now to the point that if I see a BP rise, I start worrying I'm coming down with something, take some vitamen C, try to get extra sleep and rest.

Wonder if any had similar experiences.

Hi ccc3. I recently had a cold but did not notice any rise in my BP.
Good luck to you!

Actually, Dr Rowena responded to a similar topic.
Is it normal for your BP to go up after an upper respiratory infection and a fever?

Many cough and cold preparations contain drugs that are known to elevate blood pressure. This is the most likely cause of elevated blood pressure after a common viral infection. Blood pressure should return to normal shortly after the offending medication is stopped. To be safe, have your blood pressure evaluated by your doctor.

Your right about the cold mediations. Isopropenal pain killer does a real big number on my BP.
That aside, I usually don't take anything for cold or flu. Sometimes I'll take an aspirin. I still seem to have effect on my blood pressure when under an infection.
