I have some comments and questions having been using Resperate for about three weeks. I purchased the machine after positive comments from my brother and, whatever short term results are achieved, my mind set and common sense suggests that setting aside regular and pleasant periods for what amounts to relaxation must be a good thing.

My expectation is therefore to believe that the procedures will get a positive result. I suspect that measuring ones own blood pressure may not be too reliable a method of monitoring short term progress. Obviously it is important to follow correct procedures as closely as possible but I also think one has to take into account human nature. In the past I have felt very tempted to reject high readings "it must be a rogue result" and focus on low ones "exercise and diet is getting results"

My question relates to 'Theraputic Breathing". This requires one to follow the prompts of the machine and to breath in a slow and measured way. Breathing is slowed down but also follows two distinct phases, breathing in and breathing out. What I think of as natural breathing is both at a higher rate and follows, in my case anyway, a three phase sequence, breath in, breath out and then pause (with lungs empty) then repeat the cycle.

My question is 'How significant is the absence of the absence of the lungs empty pause from Theraputic breathing?'. Do the hoped for long term benefits of using Resperate relate to the time when actually using the machine or do users tend to breath more slowly even when not using the machine. I can believe that this may well happen but I suspect that that any slower natural breathing rate will still incorporate the lungs empty pause cycle. If so, is this likely to
to reduce the beneficial effect?

Plenty of questions and I will be interested to have any comments/response

Thanks

Here's my 2 cents. I too have that pause after exhaling, and I do incorporate in my resperate sessions. I make sure I breathe with the pause during the recognition phase, and just follow it into the session. I tend to breath slowly and (for me) found it's much easier to do the pause in that slow setting rather than on a faster pace when I found I was racing to keep up with the machine. I also want to distinguish the pause from holding your breath. For me, the pause IS part of my natural breathing and so I don't think I'm violating the recommended protocol. One last thing, and I was thinking about this just tonight -- I think it's misleading to say that the goal during use of the machine is "natural" breathing. If natural breathing were truly the goal, you wouldn't need the machine! I think by natural what is meant is as slow as you can COMFORTABLY breathe, but it's certainly a breathing that your conscious of, and hence not truly natural IMO.

I understand what you mean when you bring up the breathing "naturally." When we say that, what we mean is do not take a deep breath in, do not hold your breath, do not stutter your exhale, do not use any other "breathing technique" you may have done or read about in the past. Of course we want you to breathe comfortably, but we also want you to simply breathe naturally, following the tones.
