We just got our unit and I tried it this morning. I'm a trombone player and singer, and my normal rate is pretty slow; certainly below 10. But the instrument kept trying to get me to breathe faster! That doesn't seem right. If I followed the voice/tones I would be panting not breathing... Shouldn't it start from where I am during the beginning phase?

Rob,
We have many opera singers and musicians that have successfully achieved reductions from their RESPeRATE use. Based on the many conversations that I've personally had, many claim to have a slow breathing rate, but not necessarily below the 10 BPM. What occurs during the recognition phase is that MANY people tend to breathe slower and deeper than they normally would and get a reading that is lower than their natural breath rate. So, once they begin their session, they begin to relax and breathe normal, which the sensor guages to be a quicker breathing rate than what was initial. If this is ocurring, then my suggestion is to continue breathing at a comfortable rate and the RESPeRATE will follow you and come down to where you are. Good Luck! Marguerite |
