Hi: If 6-8 BPM is optimal, why doesn't the machine only take you down that far? Our job is to follow the machine. Mine always takes me below 5 BPM. I don't watch the display, I try to relax while following the tones. If the machine was limited to 7 BPM that is where I would bottom out, right in the zone.

Thanks

Although 6-8 BPM is optimal, it's not to say that anything below that isn't. It should be a progression. There are some people that can truly and comfortably breathe below 5BPM. The resperate is designed to be interactive.

I have to agree with Fordcr. Resp@rate was actually raising my BP until I got phone help. I shortened my sessions to 10 minutes and learned to keep my BPM above 5. But there's no reason the device couldn't limit the lowest BPM for me. If the ideal rate varies among users, a software-selectable setting would do the trick.

I just completed a survey about possible new Resp@rate features. Many of them would be nice and/or useful, but the only new feature I would pay for is a selectable or hard-wired lower BPM limit.

It would be nice to be able to set a starting and ending rate. I sometimes come in from a hectic day and my breathing rate will come in at 20 beats per minute. It can take 10 minutes to get down to 10 beats per minute. So, I've learned to cheat. When I first start I really drag out the breathing, sometimes only breathing in every second time it says. The smart little machine will adjust to me and drop it down to 10 beats per minute in usually about 1 or 2 minutes. I suspect that it using whole minute interval for calculations .... it seems to take that long to respond to any change in breathing.
